PlumpJack Group is a hospitality management company dedicated to creating unique individual experiences for its guests and customers. We began in 1992 when partner, former San Francisco mayor and current Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, founded the first PlumpJack Wine Store on Fillmore Street with the goal of making the experience of wine discovery more fun and approachable for all – the connoisseur and the uninitiated alike. More than two decades later, under the leadership of Hilary Newsom and Jeremy Scherer, PlumpJack Group has established itself as the signature Northern California lifestyle and hospitality brand.

Our Journey over Time

  • 1992

    PlumpJack Wines Fillmore becomes the first business in the PlumpJack portfolio, in the Cow Hollow of San Francisco.

  • 1994

    PlumpJack Cafe
    San Francisco becomes the first restaurant in the neighborhood to offer wines at retail pricing.
    1994–1998*

  • 1995

    PlumpJack Inn our first hotel opens just steps from the legendary ski lifts of Olympic Valley, USA (formerly Squaw Valley).
    1995–Present

    Balboa Cafe joined the PlumpJack collection and their Balboa Burger became known as one of the best burgers in San Francisco.

    PlumpJack Cafe featuring bar and fine dining experience.

  • 2001

    Matrix Fillmore opens in Cow Hollow’s “Triangle” in San Francisco.

    PlumpJack Wines & Spirits, Noe Valley opens it’s second location in the Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco.

    PlumpJackSport opens in Olympic Valley (formerly Squaw Valley) offering the latest snow and ski fashion and essentials.

    CADE Estate Winery our second estate winery opens high above the fog line on the dramatic slopes of Howell Mountain.

  • 2012

    Odette Estate Winery is the third winery to join the portfolio and is located in the Stags Leap District, Gold LEED Cert.

  • 2015

    Forgery Bar opens in San Francisco’s mid-market neighborhood.

    VERSO (Adjacent to Forgery Bar) event space opens.

  • 2016

    Wildhawk cocktail and martini bar opens in San Francisco’s Mission District.

    13th Vineyard opens and is located on the other side of Howell Mountain.

    Ingleside Inn & Melvyn’s Restaurant in Palm Springs is relaunched by PlumpJack

    The Hideaway opens in Carmel-by-the-Sea 2016–2019*

    The PlumpJack Foundation launches to house PlumpJack’s countless philanthropic initiatives to help end childhood poverty and hunger.

    White Rabbit bar opens in Cow Hollow district of San Francisco to take the place of Matrix Fillmore.

    PlumpJack Collection of Wineries is launched to house our four estate wineries, wine brands, and future ventures in Napa Valley.

  • 2022

    Oso Vineyard is acquired by the PlumpJack Collection of Wineries to provide fruit for Adaptation Wines, CADE Estate Winery and Odette Estate Winery.
